Sensei Leanne and I attended the annual seminar for the Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR) for Iaido and Jodo. This year it was hosted by the Queensland Kendo Renmei (QKR) at Tallebugera on the Gold Coast. The seminar was for one week 21- 27 January. The first five days (Monday to Friday) were training and on Saturday was the Australian National Championship followed by examinations on Sunday.

Every year the AKR bring Sensei from Japan to teach at the event. This ensures the training is consistant with the current training practices in Japan and the standard of Australian Iaido and Jodo is maintained. The attending Sensei this year were:

The seminar training time was 8:30am til 5:00pm with an hour for lunch and a small break mid morning and afternoon. Leanne and I were fortunate to have Nagayama Sensei teach our group. He is an excellent teacher and helped improve our technique by pointing out the small points that make a big difference. Thank you Nagayama Sensei....

The QKR did an excellent job of organising the event. The meals provided were great and the venue was excellent. We look forward to next years seminar in Canberra.

Seminar With Hanshi Dave Franklin

On Wednesday October 31 2007 Renshi Kevin Walsh and Hanshi Dave Franklin presented a seminar for Black Belts and students of Idokan Australia and Cho Wa Ryu Ju-Jitsu .

The seminar was held at Hanshi Franklin's dojo in Werribee. Hanshi Franklin began by giving a display of his Ju-Jitsu style and then the class took part in some practical applications. Renshi Kevin Walsh gave practical examples of combining techniques and demonstrated the effectiveness of pressure point techniques.

All agreed the night was a great success and should get together for another seminar at a later date.
